Description
Zilucoplan is a potent and selective peptide inhibitor of complement component C5, a crucial protein in the activation of the complement system involved in immune response and inflammation. By binding to C5, Zilucoplan prevents its cleavage into C5a and C5b, thereby blocking downstream formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) and reducing inflammatory damage.
Zilucoplan is widely used in experimental research focused on autoimmune diseases, inflammatory conditions, and complement-mediated pathologies such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and myasthenia gravis.

Mechanism of Action & Research Applications
Zilucoplan acts as a complement C5 inhibitor by binding to the C5 protein, blocking its cleavage by C5 convertase. This inhibition prevents the generation of the potent inflammatory mediator C5a and the assembly of the membrane attack complex (C5b-9). Through this mechanism, Zilucoplan helps to reduce complement-mediated inflammation and tissue damage.
Research applications include:
Investigations of autoimmune diseases such as myasthenia gravis
Studies on paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH)
Experimental models of complement-driven inflammatory disorders
Exploring therapeutic potential in complement-mediated pathologies
Side Effects (For Research Context Only)
In laboratory research, Zilucoplan is generally well tolerated with no known adverse effects applicable outside experimental contexts. This product is for research use only and not intended for clinical application.
Disclaimer
Zilucoplan is intended solely for laboratory research use and is not approved for clinical or therapeutic applications.
